Moringa Oleifera Tree Leaf – My Review Of The Health Benefits and Side Effects
Moringa is one of the natural supplements I have been using for several years. A friend of mine came back from Ghana and was raving about this natural plant that she uses all the time for her and her kid’s overall health. She raved on about how she uses the powder in stews and all kinds of cuisine, and it’s freely grown all over the world.
Since I’m open to any form of natural nourishment, I decided to look into this 100% herbal superfood.
I was astonished to read that India’s ancient tradition of ayurveda medicine cites 300 diseases that are treated with the leaves of the Moringa tree. Gram for gram, Moringa leaves contain:
- 7 times the vitamin C in oranges
- 4 times the calcium in milk
- 4 times the iron in spinach
- 4 times the vitamin A in carrots
- 2 times the protein in milk
- 3 times the potassium in bananas
Origins of Moringa Oleifera
The Moringa tree is indigenous to north-western India, particularly in the southern foothills of the Himalayas. It is currently cultivated extensively in Central/South America, Africa, Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia, Philippines and India.
As one of the most cultivated species of its kind, it belongs to the genus Moringa – the sole genus in the Moringaceae family. It grows primarily in places which have tropical, subtropical and
Benefits of Moringa
Popularly known to many countries as a “miracle plant”, Moringa Oleifera earned its reputation because of the wide range of nutritional and medicinal properties which can be acquired from almost any part of the tree – the bark, the root, the leaves and the seeds.
There are too many healing properties in this tree to mention, but here are a few.
- Moringa is proven to help heal gastric ulcers which are a painful and debilitating digestive system disorder.
- It is also known for it’s antioxidant, anti inflammatory and tissue protective properties.
- Moringa Oleifera contains powerful nutrients in high amounts such as potassium, Vitamin E, Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium, that are important in combatting high blood pressure.
- It is also known to have anti diabetic properties, and it helps in maintaining healthy levels of cholesterol.
- Another benefit of moringa oleifera is that in some cases it acts as a mild analgesic, and this has proven successful with people suffering from arthritis and mild other body aches and pains.
Side Effects of Moringa Oleifera
Moringa Oleifera has no known side effects. It’s gentle enough to be given in diets to babies in Africa to overcome malnourishment.
It’s one of the most secret performance enhancing products taken by athletes today who ingest megadoses that help them physically and mentally.
However, even though it is known as a superfood, it should not be taken in place of a balanced meal.
As with all non prescribed medication, consult your doctor before taking Moringa Oleifera.
What Others Say About Moringa Oleifera
I have been taking moringa leaf powder for a few years now, but wanted to give these capsules a try as sometimes I get too busy and don’t have the time to mix the powder in a drink. These moringa leaf capsules by Vitamin Citi work great for when I am in a hurry! They work just as well as taking the powder, except they are easier to take. These give me so much energy, and I definitely notice a difference when I skip taking them. These also help to keep my back from getting stiff while I sleep at night. Great product! PV
I really like these so far! I’ve been taking them for a couple of weeks now and I feel like they are giving me more energy. I’m not as tired in the afternoon’s as I was and I actually stopped drinking coffee in the afternoon so I wouldn’t be bouncing off the walls. Mike D
My sugar level is a little on the high side so I decided to give this Moringa supplement a try. I have been using it for a while now and I can tell that it’s working because my blood sugar level is normal again. I also feel like I have more energy and I really like this supplement. Didi
I was looking for vitamins that will help with increasing energy, vitality and support mental clarity. My friend told me about the superfood Moringa which won’t raise your blood pressure and regulates healthy blood sugar level while giving you a boost of energy. After just a couple days of taking Moringa I was able to reduce the amount of caffeine intake, but still feel fresh and alert. It’s really amazing that you can take a superfood packed with anti-oxidant, anti-aging elements while getting the energy and boost of mental clarity like caffeine. Marlena
How is Moringa Consumed?
Moringa in powder form is used in a variety of dishes to add flavour. When used in capsule form it can be ingested once or twice a day with or after a meal.
My Final Thoughts
You know I couldn’t have written this review without having tried it myself. In 2012, I had been so busy running around like a headless chicken I’d forgotten to take care of No. 1. Eventually it caught up with me, hence the recommendation to try Moringa from my friend.
I ordered some capsules, and I took two a day for 2 weeks. At first I didn’t think it was having any affect on me, but then after about a week, I noticed that I wasn’t as sluggish, and I didn’t feel like taking a nap in the afternoon any more.
My vision became a bit sharper and I didn’t feel so out of breath whenever I found myself rushing around. So I guess it must have had some positive effect on my health. I continued taking them for at least 3 months, and they really did invigorate me. I’ve taken it on and off through the years whenever I’ve felt the need. So I definitely give it the thumbs up.
